As a retired ordained minister it's only natural that I approach counselling from a Christian worldview and with an in-depth knowledge of Scripture and theology. And as a retired RCAF Chaplain with more than 30 years of military service, I have a unique understanding of a variety of faith traditions and have counselled numerous individuals through their crises of faith and with their personal and relationship issues.
I am a devoted Christian, husband (married for 27 Years) and father of two grown young men. I understand what it is like to face relationship issues and to face life's challenges as you work together to raise a family.
I see life as a three-legged stool - Spiritual - Mental - Physical. As we sit atop of this stool we try to have balance in our lives. If you completely cut off the Spiritual leg, you are left to balance on the remaining two legs. It's not ideal, but many people manage to do just that. However, when our mental or physical health is injured or weakened, we are left with only one leg and most people don't do well balancing. Life comes crashing down and they do not have the support of a faith community. The preponderance of research indicates that a connection to a faith community and a strong spiritual belief builds resilience in individuals and families. Without those connections we are more fragile and more vulnerable.
I often see couples who are not at the same place in their spiritual journey. One may want to see a counsellor who is a Christian and the other may not want that spiritual connection. I am adept at working with couples and individuals regardless of their faith, beliefs or unbelief.
